Well, after the last seven and a half years, the amount of damage done is staggering. I think most Americans are getting that finally. It took this meltdown in the economy to convince many more that this model of Capitalism is doomed to failure and that America is at a cross roads. If we choose right, we will begin to evolve toward a more European model of Democratic Socialism where we begin to finally place a higher value upon society and the planet than we do on wealth alone. If we let the lies and fear mongering from the right brainwash us into choosing more of the same, then I fear the Republic as we have known it may be finished. The truly terrifying thing is we could take the planet with us when we go.
Have faith though, The sincerity, integrity, charisma and intelligence possessed by Barack Obama is talking truth to people like no other leader since Jack Kennedy. Indeed, more moderate (sane) Republicans with true vision like Sen. Chuck Hagel R. of Nebraska are backing Barack Obama as are many Republican voters who see how their once proud GOP party has been hijacked by fascists. I talk to so many rough and tough old rural ranchers and farmers that you just have to think are dyed in the wool staunch Republicans. Within a few minutes of talking to them you learn that they are supporting Obama! Some of these people have not voted Democratic since Kennedy. I see this a very encouraging sign.
Short of some staged "terrorist event" or massive voter suppression and election fraud bigger than 2000 and 2004, I think he has this in the bag. The Nazi like fervor and hatred we are seeing spewing forth at these Palin rallies is a clear indication that they know their political doom is at hand. These are the actions of desperate people.
More and more Americans are thinking globally these days and no longer see the United States as the center of the universe. Soon, my Kiwi friend, I think America will come back to the sand box and play nice as a great nation amongst a community of other great nations as a partner instead of a bully....

I think Eagle Creek will do the trick nicely. Still thinking about just one more run down the Deschutes if we get a warm sunny spell here in October....hint hint....

Oh no no no, did`nt you hear? According to "Mr wizard", I just sit home in my mum`s basement playing World of Warcraft and taking over internet sites! How would have time to raft, hike and ride all summer????
My sticks never see storage; they get used all summa at the T line!...sure Charlie, you betcha..
I am ready to do the hiking thing for sure, But if the weather is right for a fall float, I am going to make a quick trip, this time in the cat! If I do decide to do it, can you give me ride?
Oh yeah that reminds me, Ale Capone from SB.com and I are trying to plan a group ascent on Rainier`s Muir Glacier for a weekday when we get another dusting of the pow pow....you game for it if we can make it work?
