Bjagojevich makes a nomination
Everyone's favorite Illinois governor put forth a name for Obama's vacant seat today, former Illinois Attorney General and current Some Guy, Roland Burris. Burris' most notable qualification for the job is his role as A Black Guy, and in case anyone's doubting that Bjagojevich played the race card in an attempt to get his nomination through, I quote Illinois' esteemed rep Bobby Rush: "I would ask you to not hang or lynch the appointee as you try to castigate the appointer".
What's fun though, is attempting-to-curry-misplaced-racial-loyalty-so-you-can-sell-senate-seats aside, is that apparently Bjagojevich apparently doesn't even need to try to defend his appointment. From what I've been hearing, all of the confirmations involved are strictly administrative duties with no discretion, so apparently no one has the power to veto Bjag unless they can prove corruption in this particular appointment.
Between this and the $9 packs of smokes, I'm really glad I don't live in Chicago.
