See it.

"Religion makes a virtue out of not thinking, and that is nothing to brag about." - Bill Maher

At any rate, Bill Maher approaches it from a rather sanctimonious standpoint. He can be kind of adversarial at times, and relishes in making some of the people he talks to look like idiots (not that it takes much work for some of these people).

It's a good movie and raises many many good points. Particularly the paradox of religion both at once predicting the end of the world and being the single largest driving force pushing us towards the said end of world.

What I found VERY interesting, and unexpected, is the only two people he interviewed that made any sort of sense whatsoever were the two Catholic priests. However, I think the second one must have been dipping into the sacramental wine, because he either had early stages of Parkinson's or was ripped off his ass.

it is interesting, but outside of butt fuck no where third world nations, only america seems to have such an obsession with religion; either for or against it.

secondly, those people who care enuff to try to discredit religion, tend to cherry pick the biggest cretins within it, as if such a carefully selected few (from a vast swathe of morons) speak for the absolute heights of rationality and reason. as proven by the surprise expressed in that 2 catholic priests could make almost agreeable arguements.

like terrorism and other objectionable, life altering bullshit; ignore and it will simply fade away.

things like this are basically a chance to find a spastic, point a finger and laugh at the disability. and yet those who indulge in this, claim to be enlightened because of it?

Maher is just another Michael Moore wannabe. (IMO)

I saw this and found it amusing, but in no way do I think Bill's movie was anything more than comedy. It's so easy to pick and choose the 'right' people to get your point across that it's hard to see the film as anything more than, "Let's make fun of religious people!" They're easy targets IMO.

What I would recommend if you want to read a scathing account of religion throughout history is to read the book, "God is not Great. How Religion poisons everything" by Christopher Hitchens. Much more factually based without the comedy schtick all the time, although Hitchens is clever and witty in his own right.
