Default Possible corruption leads to riots in Iran

Time zones are quite different so I'm not quite sure the state of things at the moment in Iran.

Ahmadinejad claimed victory with a 63% lead of the votes in Tehran. Mousavi(a candidate in the running) supporters are saying that the elections have been rigged, showing some evidence of the election that is quite peculiar. The result of the event has led to riots all over Tehran, with protesters calling for the head of Ahmadinejad.

Due to the riots, the revolutionary guard has been called, social networks access has been blocked from those in the country, and cell-phone usage has been blocked. The candidates of the election have been put under house arrest.

with 'the supreme leader' making the final decisions on every aspect of political and spiritual life in Iran, it made little difference who won this election.

but if Iran would wish to experience a taste of western democratic process, thay should now at least empathise with americans following Bush's re-election.

a common and potentially beneficial appreciation for something out of pure corruption? whodafunkit?

I call BS on those photos. Not that there aren't riots going on with shit burning and people getting beat. BUT... this happens all the time, photographers and journalists staging / photoshop enhancing photos. Picture 2 and 4, you'll see some dbag in designer jeans holder a rake or something. They got him from the front and they he is in the backround of the other picture.... Hasn't moved....posing. Also, those fires look like they were photoshopped a bit as well to make them look more "intense".

He has the rake in opposite hands in each picture and even if you 'flipped the negative' the arm positions don't match up. Plus the arm not holding rake are out from the body in one pic and close to the person's side on the other one. I wouldn't be too quick to call Photshop on this one.

And I like how Paolo was able to find the silver lining in this.

I didn't mean that he is frozen in place. But is standing out in the open in the same place with a weapon just waiting to be tackling and whooped by the popo. It just looks staged to me.

Christ, they'd better be careful. Unless they start burning American flags over there again, the demand is going to fall out of the bottom of the entire flammable US presidential effigy and gasline-soaked flag market. They think Iran's got domestic issues now, wait'll they're knee deep in unburned Obama posters.

apparently, i understand that those balzing motorbikes are genuine. it seems a few over zealous biker guards lost control of their mighty Puch (or whatever pizza delivery vehicles were commandered) and they burst alight.

fortunately for these gravel rashed rozzers, the crowd were generous enuff to pull them to safety before continuing their protest.... but such humanitarian niceties seldom make for sensational copy!

viva la resitence!

Sorry to bump my own thread but I felt this was quite important.

Shots have been fired into crowds.

News from The Associated Press
Video of Tehran Protest Shooting | A World Without Spin

Frequent twitter updater:

The protest had reached a mass, 5 miles long.

As for the poster who said that the motorcycles had been photoshopped... just watch some videos of the Iran protests and I'm sure you'll find plenty of burning things. I can understand your idea on placement to make something more than it is, but the things I've seen in the photos look like any of the videos you can find on the conflict.

They've been kicking out foreign press. A lot of the information coming in is from texts and social networks.

Many of the twitter updaters (university students and citizens) have been unusually quiet for hours.

PNote: Ali Hoseyni Khamene'i (supreme leader of Iran) is calling for an investigation into the elections. It strikes me as odd that if this was actually a rigging, of all people... why wouldn't Khamene'i know about it. Seems like he's trying to get in the protesters favor, if things get too hairy.

Thank the gods that a rigged election couldn't happen here. Imagine the chaos if a state had election problems and a person falsely became leader of the US.

From what I've been reading so far, there's a whole media blackout trying to suppress any info in or out. But it's still reaching the news.
