North Korea accuses the U.S. of provoking another war, warns it will wipe US of map

N. Korea threatens US; world anticipates missile - Yahoo! News

All this diplomacy is going to lead to another war, this time with N. Korea having nukes. Not a good outlook at all.

I don't see how they can be a physical threat to the U.S. Their greatest long range missile can't even reach the Hawaiian islands, unless of course it had one of the luckiest tailwinds for the duration of it's flight. The only damage the U.S. could sustain from NKorea is loss of life to our troops stationed in SKorea. Which don't get me wrong, is still a dreadful possibility.

I guess my point is, this is an empty threat, they most certaily are not capable of "wiping" the U.S. off of the map. This is just a case of a chihuahua with the bark of a mastiff.

Take yourself to higher places.

Agreed, but with an ailing psychopath of a dictator you never know what they have planned. But I do agree with the "Don't talk shit if you can't back it up." What amazes me is that a year doesn't go by that the US isn't in a conflict or war.

It is hard to know what to think. The information we receive leads us to believe that NK is capable of grossly irresponsible and even self-destructive actions. Is there some advantage to NK if it provokes the US into a pre-emptive strike, perpetuating our image as a heavy-handed aggressor? I've heard that drug cartels have access to submarines...if they made a deal with NK, could they extend the reach of NK's nukes? Who knows? I'm sure NK cannot "wipe us off the map" but it is not impossible to deal us a terrible blow, especailly given the worldwide economic recession. I do know that I am not at all confident in the quality of US intelligence and our ability to anticipate the actions of those who wish to bring us down.

I doubt they've got access to ballistic missile nuclear submarines. Firing a ballistic missile from a sub is a LOT harder than it sounds, and it sounds pretty damn hard. Not to mention, I can pretty much say with 100% certainty that NK's four rickety, bent missiles can't be fired from a sub.

This is more of NK talking out their ass. They make Chavez look like Honest Abe. The only people who believe NK state media is the NK people, and that's only because they aren't allowed to watch anything else. If they had half an idea of just how badly their government runs things and the ability/right to organize, Kim Jong would be swaying in the breeze in 12 hours flat.

They may very well launch this crap, but the full judgement of history and the world will land squarely on NK's shoulders in this case.

The real threat here isn't NK landing a nuke on american soil it's more them blowing one of our allies off the map and then we get dragged into a conflict with China and Iran. I really wish Europe would get more involved in the world, once again I'm tired of the US playing big brother. This situation has all of the components to easily create WW III. All it's waiting on is for just one person to light the fuse. Also keep in mind that it only would take a handful of nukes to exterminate the world. It's scary shit to think that the human race and life on this planet could be eliminated as the result of a nuclear war...

Even without a real army, I'm pretty sure Japan could win a one on one with North Korea.

How big of an explosion do they think one nuke makes? If you launched enough nukes to 'wipe the US off the map' you'd also cause nuclear winter.

I always wondered whether the dictator is simply considered a deity in the eyes of everyone (his own officials) and as such has all the power to make decisions... or... if he's just a stage-puppet and his officials are the ones making the decisions, but pushing his image of infallibility in order to keep the population in check.

If it's the former, I can see a last-message type scenario, if it's the latter I couldn't see anything bad happening to S. Korea.
