apologies for the absence of an article on this one but I assume it's had extensive coverage in North America. so what happens now that they've admitted lying to Congress continuously since 2001, and perhaps even before then? their lies and criminality helped launch an illegal war, enabled them to detain and torture any number of people at their secret locations, etc.
will there be a criminal investigation? will the agency face a complete overhaul, with tough restrictions upon it's future conduct? |

The CIA and other national intel/defense agencies generally view politicos as a nuisances. Especially since most politicians are temporary where as many inside these agencies are career minded. Thats fine I can understand that. Whats not fine is when said agencies use this world view to circumvent laws and the constitution. Theres a difference between "what they (congress)dont know wont hurt them" and directly lying to hide your actions. Even more disturbing is this new revelation...
BBC NEWS | Americas | Cheney 'ordered CIA to hide plan' Its getting to the point where people are going to have to answer for such actions. Im no idiot. I know there are many shady judgment calls made every day in the name of National Security but the continuing pattern of deceptions and constitutional violations made by Cheney and members of the last administration have to be dealt with or we can hold no international authority. Will it be a huge circus... yes Will it be turned into a left/right sideshow vs a right/wrong lesson... yes Does it still need to be done... YES |
