Today I went to a Kmart store. I was looking for a cheap pair of sneakers. When I was walking thru I noticed up against the back wall of basketballs and kickballs.............A Barach Obama Basketball!!!!
That right there is racism!
Show me another president that had his face and name on a basketball! The message I got from looking at that ball was this " We succeed in basketball, we succeed in politics". They had them in standard size basketballs and mini ones. Red and white layout and baracks kisser dead smack on the black fill hole
Now come on if you dont think that is racism I dont know what is....
You're missing an entire facet of this argument.
To me that's both a) A shitty, but genius, marketing ploy, but also b) Targeting a positive role model to a specific demographic (namely kids who would otherwise idolize people of questionable character, like NBA players).
Besides, Obama could beat a team of any 5 presidents at basketball all by himself.
Are you going to get an inner city child to look up to Bush by putting him on a basketball? No, you'll find yourself with a whole lot of unsold basketballs.
Walk two miles in the shoes of any inner city black person, and you'll realize there's a HORRIBLE dearth of positive role models for them. To argue otherwise is to argue that you're ignorant.
You've got Kobe being dragged to court for rape (which I don't believe he did), Wilt bragging about fucking 10,000 women, and Artest acting like Mike Tyson towards the fans... As an aside, Tyson isn't exactly a positive role model either. They need SOMEONE - it might as well be the president.
Even tho the basketball company is shamelessly trying to make money off his image (just like Rush's RNC does), it's also sending home a much needed message to kids. It's not racism, it's shameless capitalism that just happens to serve a useful purpose.
