Sorry if pointing out the negatives and using actual examples to demonstrate conservative hypocrisy is inconvenient. As much as you'd like to forget, and as much as you'd like us to forget in these debates... It still happened, and we're still suffering from the decisions the decisioner made.

How are my comments different than yours? I have openly criticized Bush for the Patriot Act and for poorly handling Iraq/Afghanistan. I believe I have also stated on here that I would have voted for Hillary over McCain because he was/is more liberal on many policies than she was/is.

Obama has pushed for the highly publicized fairness doctrine which would regulate only certain peoples speech. He is now, along with other Democrats, saying that he will do what he can to reverse the effect of this SCOTUS decision. Any attempt to limit the ability of any individual or group to get their message to the American people is an attack on the first amendment. Freedom of speech should not only be a right when the government likes the message.

I would take Bill Clinton back in a heartbeat right now. He had the sense to move back to the center after the Republicans took over congress.

The Fairness Doctrine was just bad policy and needed to be removed. The Fairness Doctrine was abolished by the FCC under Reagan in 1987. The Fairness Doctrine singled out a certain type of media and programming for "fairness". The reason that companies like Clear Channel put these shows on the air is that they are popular and get high ratings. They have an entertainment value that is profitable. People have had the option of listening to opposite minded programming, but they have not been able to stay in business.

Air America Radio Closing, Filing for Bankruptcy - ABC News

The regulations would have nothing to do with television. Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow would be able to spout their idiotic comments nightly and it would be fine. I doubt anyone would require MSNBC to air Hannity or Beck as "equal time".

Obama is not looking to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine directly, but rather to change regulations through Cass Sunstein

At what point do you think it is inappropriate for the government to regulate speech? What becomes fair? Who decides who gets "equal time"? Do we need programming for Anarchists, Libertarians, Republicans, Democrats, Socialists, Communists, etc.?

You're not understanding what this is actually about. The majority of the media in the country is owned by what, 3 companies? News Corp (fox news) owns something like 80% of the media in the ENTIRE WORLD! Controlling information like that destroys a democracy. That's why the SCOTUS smack down is distressing.
