Some people ask whether or not the price we pay in this war is worth what we get if we win. I keep asking, "What the hell CAN we win?"
You can't beat terrorism. You can't defeat hate. And the ironic thing is that the more you combat hate with violence, the more hatred you spawn. Take the two kids in the van who survived. In 15 years, how are they going to see this footage? Are they just going to say, "My parents were killed by American troops who laughed while they shot them, but that's the price of war"?
War is a sick and evil thing, proof of humanity's barbarism. Some people say war is a necessary evil, but I just keep thinking how unnecessary the whole thing seems. We don't even know what we are fighting for anymore.
EDIT: As for my respect for soldiers, let me put it this way. I have respect for someone willing to die for their cause, even if that cause isn't one I agree with. But being ready and willing to die for a cause you don't even understand does not garner my respect, it makes me feel sad for you.
