I'm just a kid still, so this might be a stupid question, but what do you guys think the point of Democrats and Republicans are? I don't mean that like what their goals are, I mean it like why have sides? I feel like everyone is either Republican or Democratic now, nobody really likes someone for their beliefs. It just seems like having parties ruins the political system. I think there shouldn't be parties, just different beliefs and supports for every person. Everyone being Independant, if you will. That way, when you go to vote, it's not voting for a Republican or Democrat, it's voting for the guy you think will run the country best. Just my observation....

That would make it too hard on the mindless American masses.
We just want to know whether there is an R or a D in front of their name. Can you imagine actually having to weigh the values of every candidate against your own? That would mean being involved in the political process. And since we don't even have time to sit down and have dinner with our family, I seriously doubt we can be bothered to elect sane, rational people to government office.

I just tell it like it is.
It's human nature that most people are followers, not leaders. Most people WANT someone to tell them what to do. They want God to tell them what is morally right, they want politicians to tell them how our legal system should work, they want the military telling them who the bad guy is. All that lack of independent thought is what frees up our minds so we can watch Housewives of Orange County.

To Logan, props to you for the free-thinking. In reality, washington is just a mess, republicans don't vote against bills because they disagree with what is in them, half just vote against because it's coming from a democrat. It's the same way with the hollow-headed followers, most don't care who they are behind as long as it's within their party.
I wish I could find the video of people asking Palins supporters what her foreign policy views were, it's good for a laugh, most had no idea, they just vote for her because....well, she's her and she's within their party lines. I mean, granted, either way it's really easy to interview a hundred people and pick the ten who were most stupid. Still sad nonetheless. |
