I'm not sure why its evolution is such a big deal. Most of the world has accepted it, including lots of Christians (they just feel that God put it in action, its part of his design).
But whenever people who insist on taking the bible for historical fact run into science that say otherwise, the bible gets left behind in logical arguments. Its happened before with the the discovery of the solar system, age of the earth, oldest found human remains predating the bible, etc.
I don't have a problem with the theory of evolution, I do believe it evolution however it is quite different than what is presented. Despite what you think, the bible was WAY ahead of science before it was proven:
- the earth is round
- the sun is the center
- pregnancy occurs with sexual intercourse
This was accepted as fact BEFORE science confirmed them.
In terms of the age of the solar system - some think it is older and some think it is not.... whatever.
Despite whatever the argument is - the bottom line is behavior or guidelines. By removing what is "good" or "bad" behavior and the internal consequences (ie conscience) anything can be rationalized.
As mentioned, I do believe in the evolution of man and hope mankind will stop the war, starvation, murder, and greed that has plagued human history. However, that will not be physical, mental, or emotionally but spiritually.
