This is happening where I live, just wanted some outside opinion on it. Basically cops are being trained to "guess or estimate" peoples speed instead of using radar guns.

Wow...
I hope this doesn't stand up. What kind of "special training" allows cops to be reliable measurements for speed? Especially ones that can cost people hundreds of dollars...

To Flick, sadly the Ohio Supreme Court voted this in 5-1. |

I was going 5mph on an icey road. I tried to make a Michigan left turn (which is bullshit in itself because you are forced to make a U-Turn to turn left in most major roads here) and my car just kept sliding straight. Hit a stop sign. Only my car was damaged because 5mph is obviously too slow to do anything to the sign.
I made the mistake of filing a police report in case I needed it for insurance reasons. They gave me a ticket. They said I was driving too fast for weather conditions. They told me I could be going 1mph and if I slide, then I'm still going too fast. What a load of crap. That's what I get for being an honest citizen. On topic: There are ways to become pretty damn accurate in eyeballing speed and distance. Specially trained military personal can do this. That is not the problem though. The problem is the proof. Sure you can estimate pretty damn well, but where is the solid proof? What about the cops who are inaccurate? What about the abuse potential? Pretty dumb if you ask me. |

I knew that for a fact. I normally have my escort turned on and I witnessed someone got pulled over with no radar or laser. The person that was pulled over braked when he saw a cop. He then attempted to switch line once, which is a mistake. I thought the cop was going to pull me over, but it was him. I really think that because he braked and changed lane, the cop just assumed he was speeding. We were going 75 on a 70... I have a gut feeling that the person received an 85mph ticket.
Don't brake when you see a cop! They can see that you are braking. You are just giving them the impression that you are speeding. If you do brake, do it lightly... I cannot stand when people brake even when they are within speed limit... All this trained eye crap is bs. I am pretty sure they created that law because radar's are not getting enough tickets, since most people have radar detectors nowadays. It is just another way to make money... only brake if you're going over by a lot. and only if it's before they get you on radar lol. i've slowed down like 20mph many times before the cop could get me on radar. they would pull me over anyway and waste my time, but no tickets. guess in Ohio I would.
