I know we need to stop our dependance on fossil fuels such as oil but that has yet to come, but do you think if oil compainies were allowed (such as BP) to drill closer to the coast in shallower waters this disaster could never have happen or if it did be able to fix the issue better/faster? With the ocean over a mile deep were the leak is (from what the media portrays), it is very hard to contain because of the depth. I know this is a "what if," but could it have made a difference?

there's other environmental concerns I think, than just a disaster.

There are rigs closer to the shore than the Deep-water Horizon. In fact there's quite a few that can be seen from beaches. There are also deeper drilling area's than this one.

Again, this map is all you really need to see. The Deep-water Horizon isn't listed specifically but it is southeast of the southern most tip of Louisiana.

i think there is environmental concerns no matter where you drill, but i think being able to fix the problem in a timely and easy manner would be helpful.

i just wonder if they'd have to drill the same depth shaft as a the relief wells.

but anyway, I dont have a better idea. The Ruskies are fairly good with that stuff too...guess you got to weigh up the effects of a nuke over the effects of oil spilling the fuck everywhere. Maybe a "big but not so isotonic" bomb might be the go?
