Anyone else thinks this was a waste to begin with?? 400K (of MY own money) to develop fucking space cookies while doctors and nurses are underpaid and ppl live in the streets, and so on....

This is only a mere fraction of what is wasted on things that never come to fruition. Tons and Tons of money is dumped into R&D and in reality only a few products are ever yielded out of the bunch.

This is so true. All this talk of reducing deficit, blah, blah blah, is a joke b/c no one mentioned cutting defense spending. The military industrial complex runs this country. Everyone is so anxious to pay lower taxes, repeal the what shitty healthcare coverage we barely squeaked by last year, cut any and all social programs and education, but never is there talk of reducing the military budget.

This is so wrong, cut it by half and it would still be the largest defense budget on the planet by a large margin.

That's the nature of R&D. Not to excuse NASA's stupidity in this particular case, the amount of cash you dump in is directly proportional to the discoveries that come out the other side. Less money = less discovery and innovation. You don't need to release that new space age giant ass wart cream to learn a thing or eight about giant ass warts and creams.

And science is fucking expensive.

This is totally true, so many of the innovations we take for granted today in society are products of a long stream of trial and error. Unfortunetly money has to be dumped into the error products because you never know when it might yield results. It's just the nature of the beast, I know for a fact however that the U.S spends way to much R&D money on developing new defense weapons. That right there probably takes up a huge percentage of the military budget.
