Jeffrey: both parties are definitely fucked. but you still have a responsibility to vote. while the democrats are corrupt and have jello for spines, the republicans are a thousand times worse. It may be like choosing between getting smacked in the face or kicked in the balls. but regardless, i don't want to get kicked in the balls.

If you don't like any of the candidates on the ticket, don't just stay home. That doesn't send a message -- it's indistinguishable from being a lazy sot. Instead, go in and spoil your ballot. If the spoiled ballots have more 'votes' than any of the candidates, they can't ignore that because the media will go nuts over it.

Actually, the republicans in the US have enough of a natural majority that they'll win by default. Democrats always get in when the republicans have screwed things up so badly that only someone who is totally blinded by party loyalty can ignore it.

We have a very similar situation in BC. It's essentially a two-party system, with the more right-wing normally having an easy majority. But every once in a while they do something so massively smelly that everyone bolts to the left. Then we have a couple of years to regret that while the liberals or socreds (whichever they're calling themselves this week) do damage control.

Mpd, I agree in principle that a more right-wing policy is preferable, but holy shit your republicans are past right wing and well into fascist, with a dose of taliban thrown in. I'm glad I'm here, not there.

Really MPD, things weren't already in the shitter? So far Obama has definitely shown his spineless side, but I like to at least give him the benefit of the doubt because of the situation he was elected into. You couldn't pay me enough money to be president with what he got handed. Right now he's just a big scapegoat for everyone to blame Bush's mess on.

Clinton's presidency makes the above statement pretty untrue. What was so horrible about Clinton? That we weren't in a deficit and everyone had good jobs? I just want to know what republicans have against him besides the fact that he was a "Sexual Deviant". I'd rather have a guy fucking a secretary instead of fucking the country.

Sadly, SW, you are wrong. I had a conversation with my brother a while back (he's living in the US and is a republican) where he looked straight at me and with total seriousness told me that:

A) Obama is a muslim
B) Obama was not born in the US
C) The 2008 crash was not caused by Bush. It was caused by policies that Clinton implemented.

He wasn't trolling. This was face to face. Some people actually buy into this crap, instead of just using it for talking points.
