I'd like to see much stricter gun control laws throughout the entire US, although some areas are more in need than others.

2 cents from a guy raised otside this.... "mindset".
What do you need a gun for? Protection? No. You need a gun like you need another amp for your car stereo. It's all marketing...toward a pretty technologically cool "object" I agree, besides the moral implications, but it's just marketing. they were able to seel it to you with the slogan " protect yourself"! From the oputside...looks like a very well done marketing campaign. Any you are all buying

wolf..I wasn't trying to outlaw anything...I would like one. My wife says no..I care more for a riding trip or a new board than a piece of metal that shoots pieces of metal...despite its fascination....Besides shooting is freaking expensive.
I'd rather use a bow. Agree on the wilderness situation, less about citizens...that's why cops are for...but I never had the misfortune of living where I would have needed a gun (or as an alternative a bus ticket to another part of town?) I grew up in ROme..that I assure you, can go from very safe to very sketchy in a few blocks...but I never felt the need for a gun. All I'm saying that 99% of what is masked as " undeniable right" and other "blah blah" Is just a very effective slogan to sell more metal objects...that's all. as for import...I don't think so..I was reading that even Mexican criminals buy gun here..USA is "the" place toi buy guns. Criminal or not, there's no orther civilized country wehre buing a gun is easier than US. Then of course you can buy whatever you choose to...just aknowledge that is just some more...marketing...Like the one trying to make you buy a new "revolutionary" binding.

When my state gets CC I will be applying and get the proper classes taken for this permit. I never see myself using this but I want it and will be getting it. I believe in this right and as stated above criminals will always have guns.
Marketing will get maybe at max 5% of the population to buy for "protection" I don't really want to debate this but I think there are enough laws to punish criminals that have/use guns. They need to stop reducing charges and dismissing them in plea agreements where guns are used. Yes serious background checks should be enforced and laws to protect us all this encompasses previous comment. Criminals have more guns than the average public and kids brought into these criminal families are getting guns from criminal family members younger and younger, this is the true danger. Not me owning guns.

AS I said..I'm not against....don't bulletpoint me with the typical scenario...which you too recognize at the limit...
Even if I had a weapon it would have to be loaded and at my side 24/7 to be effective...I should be living literally ambushing those intruders to have a chance...and that includes riding, climbing, driving, everything? And what if I am wounded? should I train my kids too? Get weapons for them ? Booby trap the basement? AS you said your best chances (as in prevention with say..an avalanche) is to minimize the possibility for you to need that protection...because once you're there...you're in trouble already. Now...given that situation , would you be better off having a gun? Probably yes. My point wasn't to "take away your gun" but to point that in my opinion, a big part of the gun "philosophy" in US..it's just a very good marketing campaign from gun manufacturers.
