i will never understand why people would want to be atheist. im getting confirmed this year and basically all of my friends that already got confirmed(im the young one in the group lol)have turned to atheism. So i ask them why they are atheist and they say "They have proven ways that the world and everything was created" My thinking is ok, there is some proof but why would you want to believe that you just die and there is no more. you just rot in a grave. wouldn't you WANT to believe that if your good you get eternal happiness? whats your thoughts on the issue.

Atheism is just as bad as any religion to me.

They are self-righteous and arrogant and mistake conjecture for fact.

I can't make a leap of faith as is required with Atheism of any other religion. I just can't believe in something that isn't tangible. I have to seek out its existence and that just isn't possible with God. At least not with my normal intellect.

As I am with politics, my religious views fall in the middle. Agnostic.

I don't "want to be atheist". Did you wake up one day thinking "Yeah! I want to be Christian woooo!" That's just how your beliefs are(or so I'd hope). If i know something is bullshit, why would I want to believe it? False hope is worse than no hope at all to me. I'm not atheist because it seems awesome to me, I just don't believe in a higher power which makes me atheist.

It doesn't matter what you WANT to believe, I can't make myself realistically believe that there is a magical being who controls everything - just as I can't make myself believe that thor is real, or odin, or isis, or avalokitesvara, or ganesh or shiva, or any of the other 2500 gods that people believe in right now.

but the big if... what IF God is real. do you all really want it up the butt in the end? like if you guys are correct, we just die. But if im correct, when you die you get eternal happiness. if your atheist, no eternal happiness for you. and actually fear of the Lord is one of the beliefs(i forget the actual word that it is classified under)

in saying that - i think that if there were something after death it would be a better reality, but believing in a god that either lets all this shit happen - or even one that is "testing" everyone with this shit hole - well that is pretty fucking disturbing isn't it?

I don't think an all-loving god would turn his/her back on someone whose done good all their life, not for a promise of ethereal happiness, but because they believe in the goodness of man and universal brotherhood. Some "behave" out of fear, others because it is the right thing to do...
