Why Isn't Wall Street in Jail? | Rolling Stone Politics

I urge all of you to read this article by Matt Taibbi that appeared in the recent edition of Rolling Stone. Taibbi is one of the best muckraker reporters out there digging up facts and pointing out the seemingly obvious wrongdoings of wall street that the corporate media willfully ignores. this piece is one of his best yet. Every American should read and understand what this article says about the heinous crimes of wall street and how the gov't is their accomplice in victimizing the people and destroying our nation.

all politics is about money. forget all that bullshit about different fringe issues like abortion and gay marriage and gun control etc. etc... it all boils down to the money.

I'm sorry you ever thought politics was ever about anything other than money.

I have an uncle who keeps trying to run for various non-important political offices in his city. He never wins, and he can't understand why. He knows it's a crooked game, but as hard as he tries to seem edgy, his heart is in the right place, and he's really only looking out for the people of his city and wants the best for them. People who put the people's best interest ahead of their own wallet never make it in politics. Politics is business. Business is politics.

I've watched a bunch of interesting stuff on PBS about how money-grubbing politicians are. Everyone is in it for the money. The President's health care bill is full of ridiculousness because of the people who had to fit in stipulations to make sure they made some serious money from it.

Maybe it sounds like crazy talk, but I feel as though the gap between the rich and poor is going to grow so much in this country that it is going to end up causing some serious tension.

I hate voting because there's never a candidate that I feel has any idea what actual citizens do on a daily basis.

Something like Egypt did would be a good start.

I imagine a bunch of people protesting, and then some government figure coming out onto a balcony and yelling, "Uh...No!" and everyone goes home with their heads hung, returning to the rat race and paying four bucks a gallon for gasoline.

That's because Americans don't have the balls to hold real protests. I for one definitely don't. You see how crazy some of those lunatics can get? Any American serious about protesting could afford to learn a thing or two from various different foreigners. Hell, countries hold more substantial riots when their soccer team loses than America ever has.

they don't have to pay. They own the state already. There's simply no one above them to make them pay..or go to jail.

Get caught with a joint -> prison. Brag about slamming 4 pounds of coke up your nose every night, recommend that other people do it if they think they can handle it, and declare yourself a winner -> get 4 million followers on Twitter.

WTF?

There's a sliding scale of justice in this country, and honestly throughout the world and history.

The more money you have, the less likely you are to face any major legal issues.

However, what some of these guys have gotten away with is over and beyond ridiculous. To get away with this type of financial crime this publicly, it's almost unthinkable.
