"The team took census data stretching back as far as a century from countries in which the census queried religious affiliation:"

No where in this sentence does it say that these are the nine countries where religion will fade away. It just says that these countries include that in the census data. Nor does it give any date or % of when religion will cease to be relevant.

shit article.

They're not clairvoyants. All they can do is speculate.

"Obviously we don't really believe this is the network structure of a modern society, where each person is influenced equally by all the other people in society," he said.

However, he told BBC News that he thought it was "a suggestive result".

"It's interesting that a fairly simple model captures the data, and if those simple ideas are correct, it suggests where this might be going.

"Obviously much more complicated things are going on with any one individual, but maybe a lot of that averages out."

Don't confuse the article with the research. The article writers are just trying to give a capsule summary, enough to give you the basic idea and maybe get you interested. This is a common issue on physorg and drives me nuts where a lot of the posters will read the 3-paragraph article and then criticize the research (and often the researchers) as if they've read the entire report.

I do wonder how long religion can go on explaining the "unexplainable" as God when science is slowly doing a much better job of it.

God went from being in the clouds to being in the stars to just being invisible as science progressed.

How much longer can God survive?

religion is already redundant

extinction is simply the next level in the descent into complete obscurity

our successors will no doubt chortle at those things we used to spout as fact, even more than we already do!

Just coz you don't understand it
Doesn't mean it makes no sense!
