I find that in politics, we are far more interested in someone's public image then we are with their actual performance - which leads to a bunch of idiots in power, who are simply good at hiding their secrets.

Tell me, when someone gets elected for a position, what is the main strategy their opponent takes advantage of to discredit them? It's not their policies or ideas, it's their personal life and so-called moral choices. They go for the personal aspect of their opponent, not the political. In the context of our double-standard vanity society, it's just far more effective to pull skeletons out of closets then it is to come up with a legitimate counterargument.

There is no doubt what he did was stupid, I'm not defending that. I'm just using it to make a point about how our obsession with a perfect artificial public image triumphs over reason, progress and results.
