I've got a simple test to determine credibility in an argument. Simply listen to what someone is not saying, or look at what they're not doing, in defense of their POV. The assumption is that someone really wants to win an argument, and will do what it takes. If they're not doing so, you have to wonder why.

In this case, the other billionaires are NOT showing how Buffett is wrong. Logically, wouldn't that be the thing to do? If he's full of it, then just present a simple calculation or some simple logic to show why he's out to lunch. Game over. Problem solved. So if they're not, either A) They're morons who didn't think of this, or B) They have the proof but left it in their other pants, or C) he's right.

I'm quite willing to listen to arguments for why I'm wrong. OK, go!

It's become quite the popular ideal that rather than savings, investment, prudence and disciplined credit creating economic growth, it is instead created by debt, spending, inflation and distorting risk.

The Federal Reserve should be abolished if it is not acting in the indepedent capacity it originally was intended to function in. It is not another branch of government, its responsibility is the integrity of the Dollar, first and foremost.

As a point of information, FDIC insured banks in the United States (the FDIC being another way the government distorts risk) are required to keep a 10% fractional reserve on cash on deposit accounts.

Plain and simple the government is fucked as hell and crooked as shit. Hate to say it but I am seriously considering jumping ship to another country and not the cheap "this is what white people say" cop out when shits going wrong. I am legitimately freaked out about living in this country with my way of life and see that I might as well flee now before it gets any worse.

What's going on is China wants to be the standard of currency for the world instead of the Dollar. If that happens the world is fucked and we are never going back. Add to that the control the wealthy have over politicians and politics here. The stupid fucking spending i.e. all these god damn wars we have. This country either needs to pull in the reigns or be prepared for the biggest anal gang bang without lube we've ever seen.

Man politics in the US is way more interesting than in Canada or Australia!

But do people not care? Every American I mention this to says the same stuff but it seems like nothing will change. I mean don't only 40% of the country vote? Or is voting a waste of time because people just believe whatever shit the media is telling them? (Which is the big problem with the Australian system.)

This, consumerism has made the majority of the population extremely complacent, lazy and dumb. They cannot think for themselves so the next best thing is whatever the television/radio tells them. This is how Glenn Beck and the corporate sponsored Tea Party has so much support - the ironic part being that the people supporting the organization are being directly fucked by it's funders.

People get angry about their rights to a standard of living being taken away, and using that anger it's only so easy to manipulate the simple-minded into working against their own welfare.

We also live in a distorted superficial society where people would rather vote in famous political/non-political celebrities over legitimate candidates (Donald Trump and Sarah Palin anyone?).

Historically, what you are seeing is what has happened hundreds of times in history before, and is ultimately inevitable for every society in the scope of things; the peak of an empire. I think we have passed our peak and are now on the downward bell-curve. If you look at most historical empires the same thing happens when the aristocrats and rulers (the wealthy and powerful) get so greedy it messes with the basic operations of society. Over time the system stops working and consequently collapses.

The way things are currently lined up, I think your going to see China emerge as the new world superpower, but probably not for a good while. The U.S will fight tooth and nail to keep their supremacy, all the while getting weaker and weaker.

All I know is when I'm an old geezer, (which is a long time from now) the world is going to be a very very different place - and probably not in the good sense.

Intrestingly enough, HoboMaster brings light to some of the most prudent issues which prevent the ship from righting itself, as it were. The Tea Party Movement is a grassroots movement, not centered around a particular candidate or party, but of a particular bundle philosophies, which under scrutiny, actually would seem to resonate with a great number of Americans: fiscal responsibility, reduced taxation, large scale withdrawl of overseas military presence, increased personal responsibility and personal freedom for the individual, less micromanagement by the Federal Government and the overall replacement of public program with self-sufficiency of the individual.

Yet, what image is attached to the Tea Party? The most prominent association is with the traditional GOP sect without question. Yet, the GOP only rides the coattails of a movement which encompasses far more than they have in common. The GOP tends to represent reduced taxation but obstinently increased government programming in certain areas and military expansionism.

This is the biggest problem in America. You have two choices, but the choices are just between which flavor of shit you'd rather suffer. Both of the major choices for the political spectrum want increased government programming but just in different spectrums.

There is no choice for less government. The only choices are what type of government you want more of.

I have never voted nor will I ever vote because my vote doesn't matter. Look at how Bush got into office it was bullshit. Votes do not change anything and it's all bought off. If I had the money to play politics I probably would but I don't so I said fuck it and am concentrating on my escape plan.

Hobo nailed it we're past our peak. I remember reading this well written 2 page paper on the rise and fall of an empire. I was told it was about the Roman Empire then the last sentence said, This is the United States. That was close to 12 years ago and everything that it listed is what is and has been happening with the U.S.

The media is another problem they're all off on their own agenda and because this country is satiated and full of dumb fucks they believe what the T.V., Radio, and Internet tells them. Right now I'm sitting in WNY around some of the laziest most incompetent people I've ever witnessed in my life and my family is part of it. People that I've known my whole life are so fucking retarded they think they're informed yet they watch Fox News, listen to idiots like Glen Beck and ole Nancy Grace. If you show them something new, different, or not of their mindset you're a moron.

I love this country but I can not be a part of it anymore due to my voice not being heard and the country is killing itself. China will be the new superpower there's not a doubt in my mind and that's why I'm fully prepared to learn Mandarin. If anything I'd honestly hope we had a civil war or a rebellion against the government because I think a new regime is in order.

Exactly right.

While the people of this country were being fed the soap opera of Casey Anthony, a trial which does not affect their lives in any way, the debt crisis, that will affect everyone's lives, has been brewing behind the veil of stupid-people-control. My family is a prime example of this as well. I asked if they've been following what's going on with the debt ceiling. The answer was "no, what's going on?". This isn't an isolated incident either, you looked on the front page of CNN, MSNBC, Faux, etc the debt crisis had been sidelined so they could preach to the losers of this country that want nothing but gossip.

I agree that raising taxes across the board is an irresponsible idea, but the tax loopholes to corporations need to be closed. Same with the defense budget as mentioned earlier in this thread, spending 13 billion so far in Afghanistan alone. Wasting money trying to install a democracy in an area that will never be able to uphold it in the long run, same goes for Iraq. Cut off all aide to Pakistan while we are at it.

This debt ceiling time-frame years ago was well known by our government, long before the media picked up how close we were getting to it, then reaching it. In my eyes it's like our government is a college party kid. Put off all the homework, reports, papers until the last minute then end up in a mad rush trying to get things figured out or they're screwed. They need to do something right now, or I should say they should have done something a long time ago. Investors are getting damn nervous right now.

BA, as for your comment on a civil war or rebellion against our government. Never happen. Americans are far too lazy to get up off their couches and do something, the vast majority of Americans have been taking it in the ass for so long, from every possible aspect of life, that's all they know how to do.
