My thought would be to replace the two party system with more choices, but I don't think anyone in the current government would let that happen. David_Z and yourself seem to have burrowed through all of the BS though. I totally agree with both of you.

[QUOTE=HoboMaster;439065]This is really what it comes down to. Despite the fact that the system has basically led us into ruin, people still think that changes can be made by using the same traditional channels (it's all we really know). Unfortunetly at this point, any changes you do see are superficial and ultimately serve as ulterior motives for someone standing to gain. The Tea Party movement is a perfect example - taking people's frustration, harnessing it and using it to manipulate supporters against their own interests. As soon as you see direct political support for the Wall Street protests, it will likely go the exact same way.

I don't know.

Over thousands of years of history, every organization designed by man was subsequently destroyed by man - and despite this historical record, we're supposed to believe that the system we have right now either IS the apex of human civilization, or it will yield to/create such an apex organically, through growth, rather than destruction/revolution which has been the hallmark of pretty much all progress thus far.

Nope. I don't think we've reached that apex. And we won't obtain it via the status quo. Civilization must rise of its own nature to conquer the current scourge as she conquered those previous; the people MUST rise up and seize that power, or ultimately perish.

The system is so full of "anti"-checks and balances, which serve to block attempts at one point down the road or another, that it doesn't seem possible. Historically, the aristocracies gluttony has only been overthrown by direct violence - nothing else has gotten them to relinquish their power.
You don't. They control the rules of the game. They control the media. They control the participants. We need people to stop trying to play "by the rules" or better yet, stop trying to play that game at all. Direct action, civil disobedience, mass protest, etc., go a long way.

to be sure there are plenty of fucktards (that is the technical term, I believe!) on the Republican ticket.

But I'm curious to know exactly what makes Obama so "qualified". He's at least as much of a fucktard, at least as much of a wall street crony, at least as much of a war-monger, at least as much as a divisive motherfucker as anyone the republicans could put forth.

Au contaire mon ami,
I don't believe true change will come about by voting for either of the parties. BUT there is no good reason to vote for republicans, there just isn't.

If you're in the top 5% of the earners, then I can understand it. Understand that you're a greedy fucker that doesn't want to pay back into society.

Now you're just being silly, Obama is clearly very intelligent. But he's basically a neo-con in a liberal suit.

No True Scottsman. People were heralding the guy during the 2008 campaign like he was literally some sort of divine being.

As for voting for or against Republicans, I see no reason to do either, just as I see no reason to for or against Democrats. It is the very definition of an exercise in futility. It's like buying a snowboard based on the topsheet graphic. I take that back. At least a good topsheet looks cool on your wall, later.

I was extremely disturbed by how obama was portrayed, and how people received him. If not for Sarah Palin, I probably could've voted for McCain instead.

There are a lot of people as intelligent or even more intelligent than Barry. Having a high intelligence does not automatically make you "qualified" for anything.

That's fine, but it makes him less of a disaster than all of the fucking morons that are lined up to vote for against him. It's so obvious that there is no real GOP party, people who vote for them are spitting in their own faces. Obama may be the other side of the same coin, but at least the democrats make an effort to fool us.
