As snowwolf said growing and storing some food is a wise move right now. Even if the shit doesn't fully implode (I think it will in the next year or two ) it won't hurt to have some provisions in place.

A split board and some skins might be good two just in case the lifts stop.

No, I'm not saying the U.S. is like a police in the sense that it stops evil. I'm saying the pretty much go around and stop all conflicts and "defend" who ever needs it.

The U.S. may not be good at some things.

But they are the very best at war.

The world is a playground for USA, UK, Germany, France and Russia.. The rest don't matter... And yes, NO China or India.. They might be a source for cheap labor but will never have a significant role in dominating the world.

I guess the best way I can explain it is the U.S. being the action hand of the U.N. Not saying they bring peace to anywhere they go. They go there because the U.N. or an ally needs help.

That's what I wanted to hear.. USA is the very best at war... Yeah, let's go to war.. Let's go to a country that we have no idea about, tell them we're friends - we're here to bring peace & democracy, but travel 20000 miles with 50000 people and attack them? that's what we're good at I guess?

You need to open your eyes buddy and start reading some political and history books.. Your whole perspective will change..

We discussed this briefly in another thread and I don't think he has the mindset you think he does. The point he makes is that because we are such warmongers and allies can always count on us coming in guns blazing, they don't invest in strong domestic military. They basically leave that up to us (smartly) and spend their money elsewhere.

By trying to be the world power, we essentially pick up the military tab of a lot of countries.

I'm happy for you that you're pursuing further education. I went through that route too, in a different subject though. I know getting a masters degree is very hard and requires a lot of effort.

As far as America's capabilities at war: I didn't say America isn't good at war. In fact it possesses the best technology and one of the biggest men power, which gives it an edge. When you combine these with great tactics and strategy, you see a highly capable war machine, which wasn't very successful in Vietnam nor Iraq. Both terrains created big challenges for the US army and there were a lot of casualties, which bugs me a lot actually.
