Currently congress has a 9% approval rating. I don't think honestly that it makes much of a difference. People still like their incumbent senator and reps, so they keep on voting for them. It's "all those other guys" who are the problem.
Also, keep in mind is that this play is straight out of the starve the beast playbook. There's a reason why Republicans are driving the country straight into a hole, this is proving their point that government doesn't work. |

The only way anything is going to happen is if parties are eliminated. Everything is Democrat Vs. Republican. Not good vs. bad or good vs better. Someone could propose a bill for mass suicide and if it was party affiliated then people would stand by it. Politics are stupid, leave it be, or do something about it.
Politics make my dome hurt. |

Constitutional Amendment to stop all lobbying and intitute term limits, along with elections funded by the public. If you get rid of the money you will get a more honest congress. It won't solve all the problems but it would be a good start.

I think that if two things were to happen things would improve dramatically. one would be all elections are publicly financed. the next would be making it illegal to donate, give gifts to, or anything else of the sort to politicians in any level of office.

a note about term limits - the problem with that is the bureaucracy ends up becoming more powerful at that point. Because the politicians are expendable, employees in the public sector know that they'll ultimately out-last their "boss". Then you have lots of waste as the new people try to get up to speed. I'm not saying I support life time members of congress, but term limits aren't as simple as it seems.

Seriously the opposite of greed and ignorance is liberalism, and liberals occupy the democratic party. But they should occupy the entire government. |
