Unfortunately, there's not enough public support here in this country to get anything done.

alright....this is becoming fucking ridiculous. the protests in the middle east were to over throw decades of unjust and oppressive government that took peoples basic rights and was ruled by tyrants...the "protesters" here are mad because in this free country, where you have very good freedom of choice, the wealth gap is too bit. i always thought the person of the year was for an individual who contributed the most to society and had an impact on millions, not on the democratic philosophy of protest

JeffreyCH 12-14-2011 12:37 PM

It is meant for ALL protesters around the world, not just here...and if you think it's as simple as a "wealth gap" then stick your head back in the sand. There is "corporate influence of elections" "manipulation of the housing market" "the furtherance of the police state" "devaluation of the dollar to the point where it will no longer be world reserve currency" If you want to visit a 3rd world country take a trip to any major city and walk around the poor neighborhoods.

that is why above i stated that the protesters in the middle east were very justified and encouraged in their over throwing of the government. i understand that the "protesters" category is not just the wealth gap. but on the cover of time its mentions the ows people as part of the protest group that is the "person of the year" i am just saying that i do not believe the ows protest group should be mentioned and recognised as a person of the year

So people should wait until another 6 million homes are foreclosed on? You say "All these homeless bums don't deserve any recognition" If things weren't so far out of control a lot of those people wouldn't be homeless. Do you have any understanding of what will happen in this country if the dollar is no longer the world reserve standard? That means we can longer simply print more money to cover our soaring debt, hyperinflation ensues, end American life as we know it. So should everyone just sit around and wait for it to happen?

As for "all" the protesters being homeless crack head loonies, hate to tell you this, but they ARE humans too. These people are a symptom of the decease that this country is dying of. So people that aren't smart enough or have an opportunity to go to college are second class citizens that deserve to starve in the streets? I would rather have them pushing the same button on a machine in a factory, rather then out on the street robbing people like me and you. If a person is mentally incapable to do this, then there should be actual programs that help them. Not just dope them up, warehouse 'em, and kick 'em back out on the street.

I love it when people come in here like a moth to a flame to proclaim their ignorance.
