Nolefan, you seem to think that if you just spout absurdities with enough confidence, people will doubt their memory. Try to regain a grasp of reality, ok? Individual effort and social conscience are not mutually contradictory, except to a republican.

I always get a kick out of how xians will quote the old testament when it suits them, but dismiss it as "not relevant" when it doesn't. And even then, pick and choose. Homosexuality is evil, but wearing two kinds of cloth isn't. Even though they're in the same section of the same book of the same bible, and have essentially the same punishment. But somehow, one is no longer required because Jesus "fulfilled" the requirements, but the other is still outstanding, because xians don't like gays.

Generally speaking (and there are always exceptions) these types of issues start with the xians saying something about the gays. This is not a symmetrical situation, even disregarding that. The things that set off the xians (on this subject) don't affect them in any meaningful way, and those things are protected by the constitution. When xians start up, their implied purpose is to limit those rights. When we go off on xians, we are not attempting to limit their rights, we are just providing blunt feedback.

And BTW, if you allow your freedom-of-speech right to verbally attack gays, then you are by extension allowing our freedom-of-speech right to verbally attack xians.

I don't doubt that the repubs are trying to "re-remember" the bible with Jesus as a Joh-Deere-hat-wearing, gun-toting, tabakki-spittin' southern-drawl-twangin' good-ol-boy, but a good read of the bible for comprehension tells you something entirely different.

I see what you mean, I guess I just get upset when people paint with broad stokes about Christians.

We aren't all fire and brimstone snake handlers who want to limit the rights of homosexuals or anyone else for that matter. Granted, the idiots who speak the loudest give that impressions I suppose.


EDIT: So after re-reading everything on the last page, I can see why it's frustrating for you guys dealing with "xians". I suppose I'm somewhat in the minority of that group, because I don't agree with them bashing gays or any of their other social stances either. With that said, I shouldn't have taken what ShredLife said personal.

backstop, there are a number of xians on this website who, like you, are live-and-let-live types. I'd be the first to admit that sometimes the broad strokes splatter too widely. I could include a disclaimer with every post, but hell I can't even type "christian" instead of "xian". BTW, that is just laziness -- there's no implied meaning to 'xian'.

Unfortunately for you, the Falwells of the world will continue to complain about teletubbies and thereby paint xians with a different kind of brush...
