I know for myself it makes me rethink the whole cops are jerks thing, but I am a little bias going into criminal justice myself.

I would have more respect for cops if 95% of the time they weren't just driving around profiling cars and people trying to fill a fuckin quota. You wanna save babies and shit? Thats great we need you guys for that and I respect that. What we don't need is the sharks that they have become that get a boner for giving tickets and making arrests that aren't necessary for the "safety" of the community. This is why you guys are stereotyped as dicks.

Im planning on doing probation and parole work. Im not saying you are correct about police, but I plan on working in the rehab part of the law. Id like to help people get their life on track.

Ah not so much, I respect cops for the stuff they go through. Going into places where others are running out in fear for their life. Are there jerk cops? Sure, but there are jerks in every work place.
