This is my view exactly.
I think the problem is that the second someone questions what was reported from media/government, they are labeled a conspiracy nut and instantly discredited.
I don't believe the general public would take a review of the events on 9/11 seriously unless it was some big name congressman or another household name.
Yes, making questioning government a fundamentally "anti america" and "crazy" thing to do has been a very successful strategy of the media around 9-11.
As you say it would take a lot to get most people to question it, apparently Generals and scientists carry very little weight with the american public.
