yeah, and AR doesn't mean "Assault Rifle" like most think. It's from the original designer, "Fairfield ArmaLite", who designed the AR-15 and sold the rights to Colt.

Correct, I should say M4 style platform. Or even more correct would be to say "Stoner system" based weapons.

M4 carbine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The definition of assault rifle, is created in the use of the rifle, not necessarily the type. Any weapon used to "assault" a location or target could be defined as an assault weapon. Even a knife.

Stop watching them. And explain your kids why they should not watch them either.

Civilian versions of the M4 platform, do not have true select fire, one trigger pull equals one round fired.

I love guns and I own them..
i'm all for stricter access and more in depth background checks.. I am sane and have a relatively clean record. (no violence) therefor i should be able to own guns.. and I do.. I also have them locked away very securely as all owners i think should.. well besides the pistol you need under your pillow these days..

While this is true, and I agree it's also a tragedy, I don't think that bringing this up in this type of debate is going to have the effect that you want it to. The immediate assumption is going to be that you're trying to deflect -- typical rearguard action along the lines of "how can you complain about this while that is happening" or "this happes so that can't be all that unacceptable". Both of these strategies are typically used by people who just don't want to change this and can't or won't come up with any actual valid arguments. If this is not your intent, then you may want to rejigger your statements a little.

But it does unfortunately make you a minority. Especially with that second sentence in the quote above, which could get you shot on sight in certain circles.

Apart from hunting, why does an American need a gun unless it's to do damage? You want to shoot a gun, go to a shooting range, you want to shoot something more powerful, join the military. Target practice? get a paintball gun or something, and shoot some cans, I don't know...

Ban them all except hunting rifles, and make the process of getting one very thorough. Improve gun education.

Illegal guns will find their way onto the streets, there will still be murders of course, but there needs to be a cultural shift. This mentality of "it's in the constitution" must change, and changing a country this big, and stubborn in their ways will take generations, but it has to start somewhere.

Just my opinion

this will NEVER happen.. its a constitutional right to bare arms.

more education and restrictions should be put into place for sure.

what if Red Dawn happens and no one has guns any more? we're fucked, that's what happens..
