it's like convincing a smoker...
Hunting would be a sport if the animals had the same chances...say you have one bullet ? Then you can call it sport. Shooting a deer with a scope from half a mile is a sport? So to avoid a "maybe" scenario, in your example, you accept that every nut job has access to a gun without checks? Insane. We are not talking about crime. We are talking about abundance of deranged individuals and abundance of weapons. What happened in other countries that's so scary? Do you really think we enjoy some sort of special privileges here in US? Which ones ? (beside having free gas) Agree on cars...but why having a weapon is a right? And don't mention the constitution.... I mean in real life.

Born and raised in ROme..moved here in NorCal in 99. Citizen since 05. Climber since 85, snowboarder since 04 Oh and nothing personal really...I have nothing against your guns or guns in general... and I can totally see the fascination, they are pretty cool pieces of technology... but this is the only country where people seems unable to live without them... you guys just responded really well to marketing...that's all it is. A very well done marketing campaign. Weapons are just another business.

I was refering to biathalon rifles and target shooting pistols. They are very small caiber, and not designed for killing, but for punching little hole in paper in very small clusters. While it true they have roots to hunting, they are no longer designed for that, i.e. not killing.
Not once have I said we don't need checks. I have and will continue to submit to the required checks without complaint. I also agree with your take on hunting, flinging bullets at stupid ranges is not sport, a quick humane kill is much better. Woodsmanship and marksmanship need to go together. I also have never said that owning a weapon is a right, I said its a privilege. History has shown that most major atrocities begin with disarming citizens. Enough said on that one, ok? I am not one to stand on the what the constitution says, as it was written at a very differnt time. Much of it holds true, and much does not. Can you imagine what would happen if the citizens stood up against a tyranical govt in todays America? It would end very badly....for all those involved.....its not even an option. So I do not agree with those that say its their duty to have weapons to defend against the govt. |

I don't know man......there are several Englishmen that want their guns back.
![]() I do agree though, its all about the money. By the way...I appreciate your insight, being that you are not a natural born citizen. I am sure things are viwed very differently by those who were not raised in the U.S. Last edited by cc898; 12-19-2012 at 05:36 PM. |

Very. I loved US and was mesmerized by it the first 2-3 years. Huge crisis during 911. Confusion until 03. Learned a lot since then. Lost contact with a lot of people that don't like where I live. But I love it here ( Bay area ) snow, rock and waves all within driving distance... not to mention some excellent local produce ...and wine / beer.I do miss the food from Italy...but I can cook.

Just out of curiousity how many gun owners on here are active in sport shooting? Not just paper plinking once every two years, but at least a semi-regular? My GF and I trapshoot about 10 times a year. Every second weekend or so in the summer. It's a great way to spend a day in Calgary. We drive down to a club south of the city, with an amazing view, chat with some of the old boys, shoot a couple rounds, then head home. I've taken many non-gun people trapshooting with me and I think it's changed their perspective on what responsible gun ownership is all about. |
