Default 'We' can't allow Russia to have all the 'fun'....

KUWAIT CITY : Kuwaiti authorities are currently taking the necessary precautionary measures in preparation for a possible armed conflict in the region due to disputes over Iranís nuclear program.

The Kuwait Armed Forces has started calling its reserves, engineers, lieutenants and mechanics to check and carry out maintenance works on its equipment, including tanks. The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has ordered Kuwait Air Force to set up the batteries of patriot missiles, which were operated on an experimental basis for one hour to ensure efficiency in the coming days.

Sources stated the current situation at the department is reminiscent of the US attack on Iraq in 2003. Reports from western countries indicate a possible US attack on Iran which, sources say, might take place in November.
Arab Times :: Kuwait prepares for regional conflict, calls reserves

Quote:
DEBKA files claimed on Monday that the USS Theodore Roosevelt, the USS Ronald Reagan, and the USS Iwo Jima are sailing toward the Persian Gulf to reinforce the US strike forces in the region.

The US naval force is accompanied by a British Royal Navy carrier battle group and a French nuclear hunter-killer submarine.

The deployment is believed to be the largest naval task force assembled by the United States and its allies in the region since the Persian Gulf war in 1991.

The move comes nearly a week after Operation Brimstone, which saw more than a dozen warships from US, British and French naval forces conduct war games in the Atlantic Ocean in preparation for a possible confrontation with Iran.
Press TV - Kuwait on alert for war in Persian Gulf?

Quote:
The build up of naval forces in the Gulf ..... is to create a US/EU naval blockade (which is an Act of War under international law) around Iran (with supporting air and land elements) to prevent the shipment of benzene and certain other refined oil products headed to Iranian ports.

Iran has limited domestic oil refining capacity and imports 40% of its benzene. Cutting off benzene and other key products would cripple the Iranian economy. The neo-cons are counting on such a blockade launching a war with Iran.
Massive US Naval Armada Heads For Iran

so it looks like Bush is lining up for a swansong performance.

it is worth noting however, that russia is currently making its way south thru Georgia, which leaves it with only its close friends Armenia to cross before it too arrives at Iran's borders.

what with recent US aspirations of missile silos being installed into eastern europe, do you suppose that this interntional game of chess has very real and tangible ramifications?

or are we all too engrossed in Olympic endeavour to notice such signs of forewarning?

consider the expression, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

you believe that the current global hegemon, america, enjoys a shared view of russia with china? you must be joking.

china and russia are rivals, but both are looking to exercise their industrial mights and growing prosperities to enforce a change in this world, whereby international controls are wrested from american hands.

as such, any move by the USA to capitalise on the vast resources of iran and to set up camp right on russia's border will never be tolerated.

i fear that what you see as a 'positive note' is quite the opposite old chap!

The Kremlin’s concern over encirclement by American military bases and pro-US allies is shared by the Chinese elite. Russia and China have also voiced hostility to Japanese involvement in the US missile shield programme.

Since the mid-1990s, Moscow and Beijing put aside many of their previous disputes in an effort to develop mechanisms to defend and advance their shared interests vis-à-vis the US. The two governments finalised a protocol on July 21 that formally demarcates their 4,300km international border—a major step to settle the longstanding tensions between the powers. The former USSR and China were involved in a series of military clashes in 1969 over a border dispute along the Amur River between the Russian Far East and northeastern China.

Russia has also recently strengthened its role as a supplier to China’s rapidly expanding nuclear power industry, with the two countries signing a $1.5 billion deal to build a fuel enrichment facility and supply uranium. This includes the construction of two Vodo-Vodyanoi Energetichesky reactors and a gas centrifuge plant in China and the provision of uranium-enrichment services.

Dmitry Medvedev’s first foreign trip after taking over as Russia’s president on May 7, was to Kazakhstan and then China. The new Russian president met his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao in Beijing. (In 2003, the Chinese president’s first foreign visit took him to Moscow.)

In the official joint statement, the two leaders made a thinly veiled condemnation of Washington’s planned missile shield. “Both sides believe that creating a global missile defence system, including deploying such systems in certain regions of the world, or plans for such co-operation, do not help support strategic balance and stability, and harm international efforts to control arms and the non-proliferation process,” it read.

“Some don’t like such strategic cooperation between our countries, but we understand that this cooperation serves the interests of our people, and we will strengthen it, regardless of whether others like it or not,” Medvedev said.

well either things are set to 'go off' with much momentum.... or there is DC hope that any mid-eastern tension might simmer with menaces, rather than explode with war;
