Ok so you all heard that Russia is trying to invade the small country of Georgia. As a counter measure the United States has stated that they are going to post protective missiles in Poland. Also there are rumors circulating that NATO will try to accept Ukraine as a member. And now rumors of Vladimir Putin trying to reunite Communist U.S.S.R. are all over the internet. Does anyone consider this another "cold war" yet? Or do u think he's bluffing?

1. Georgia started it. Attacking a state by which Russia pretty much considered it's residents citizen's was stupid.
2. The missile defense system in Poland was in the works long before this action broke out. Russia has been against it from the start. The US claims it's to protect countries from rogue states like Iran from launching missile attacks. Given the history Russia has had in wars, it's not surprising that they have an issue for it. 3. Yes, it is scary how cold war rhetoric is suddenly coming back to the forefront. Russia knows that the US is in no position to do anything but political posturing. Considering how we have acted with the international community in general, it's not a surprise they are being this bold. |

ok small scenario. NATO takes Ukraine in as a member. Ukraine, trusted by NATO and the U.S., ends up joining the R.U.S.S.R. or the reformed U.S.S.R. Vladimir Putin suddenly has inside people in the NATO forces. The whole concept of NATO was to create and keep peace along with removing fear. There WILL BE fear from more than one country that Ukraine will create relations like that to Russia.

with all things being considered..... you shouldn't worry really.
the one thing to remember is that this is an election year. all the official US governmental policies coming in light of Georgia acting stoopid, is tailored to compliment the Republican ideals and thus to promote McCain's campaign. The Ukraine joining NATO is something for NATO to decide. a single nation like the USA cannot run roughshod over NATO as it does with the UN. the ukraine is in no position to enforce itself and indeed, will have to illustrate a greater allegiance to future relations with NATO-centric states, than those of old mother russia! Basically, the echoes of the cold war is the only language Bush and fellow wankers know. As such, their control of governance allows them the greatest publicity….. Do not forgeet the tried and tested strategy: 'repeat it enough times, and people will begin to think it is true'. Expect a lot more of 'the russians are coming' over the next few months.

college?
anyways.... i thought the idea behind NATO was to promote the inclusion of nations into a western (ie capitalistic) method of civilisation; by endeavouring to 'enslave' the working classes so as to maintain the ruling elite, whilst imposing and curtailing the expansion of more a socialistic ideaology? this is the only reason for why NATO would consider places like the Ukraine and Georgia; two states with neglible market value, resource richness or anything else of value other than territorial proximity, smack bang next to the old russian enemy. perhaps the college lecture that explains that a NATO member state is NEVER likely to be trusted by any russian based authority, will come in the next semester?

If you actually paid for your education Nightmare, I'd get a refund. The statements I've seen you make on economics and now Nato lead me to believe that you're wasting your money.
