I've been waiting for this for months! I'll be there opening night! It'll be nice to be surrounded by rationalists, i.e. atheists.

This movie has gotten pretty good reviews all the way around. Well except from "Focus on the Family" members and such. I'll probably catch it in the theaters.

Pfft Karl Marx. Thomas Paine said it much better and earlier.

"Of all the tyrannies that affect mankind, tyranny in religion is the worst."

"All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit."

Anyone who has not read Thomas Paine's Age of Reason do so now. Right now!

Our country was founded on his ideals. He'd abandon us all for Mars if he were alive to see what we've done with it.

^ My two favorites:

I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.

I don't really follow the aethist line. I don't know if there could be some higher power or God. By that I mean something that influences the universe. Hell, it came from somewhere right? I just think organized religion is utter bunk.

Taoism lines up nicely with me. You impact your reality and the world around you. Your mood, your decisions, your actions. You aren't good because you get a reward when you die. You are good because you are. I still go back to my core belief that people can believe in anything they desire and I am no one to judge them based on the same.

Oh and Thomas Paine is my mother fuckin' hero.

i also wanna watch the shit out of this movie

ive always considered myself some sort of atheist, ive never believed in god

but i was curious as to what(if any) religious ideals would most closely be aligned to what i believe or how i feel or whatever

so i took this quiz and it tells me i am 100% theravada buddhist and 78% non-theist
