Default Obama and Irak

in a thread created by the wonderful Mr MPD..... he expressed a desire to see Obama realise the pledge of having sit down talks and cuppa teas with the globe's bad lads.

one ambition of such chit chat was to see the withdrawal of western troops from irak.

i took the chance to explain that the current agreement which allowed our occupation of their land was soon to end and thus wasn't open to Obama negotiation or policy. and in fact, such concerns were more within the control of the iraki government.

well blow me down if i ain't correct again! how tedious.

An Iraqi official says the US has signaled that it accepts Baghdad's proposals for changes to the disputed security deal between the two countries.

A top Shia lawmaker, Sami al-Askari of the ruling United Iraqi Alliance (UIA), said on Tuesday that the Iraqi deal negotiators have received positive hints from US officials for the changes which Baghdad proposed to the security pact known as the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA). The official response will be made in the coming days, he said.
'coming days'.... and so soon we shall see....

The Iraqi government demands more authority over US troops so that it can control their operations. It also wants guarantees that Iraqi territory will not be used by the US to launch attacks on neighboring countries, Yassin Majeed, an aide to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, said last Sunday.

Baghdad has also demanded that Iraqi courts should have the power to prosecute US troops and civilians if they commit any serious crimes against Iraqi citizens.

Meanwhile, Tuesday's Baghdad edition of the London-based newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat said the US had agreed to three of the five latest changes proposed by Iraq.

people might wish to dispute the credability of this news source. and why not? but we should soon find out whether what it says is true, and will then illustrate the effective authority Obama will inherit out in irak.

not so much campaign pledge, as what was due to happen anyways.....
Just coz you don't understand it
Doesn't mean it makes no sense!
