Not running to Meadows` defense here, but a lot of this I think has to do with the overall economy as well. Many ski areas are feeling the bite. In New Zealand, Snowpark has drastically cut back their operation and is no longer selling season passes. Some are going under like Tammarack in north Idaho; they bit the dust this year.
I like the idea of the May Challenge and operating on a limited scale too, but the reality is that outside of a handful of us hardcore snow sliders, the majority of people put their skis and snowboards away about the first time they need to fire up the lawn mower. In addition, many of the employees are needing to get to their summer jobs, so the resorts also experience staffing issues to boot.
This is hiking time; time to get the split or the snow shoes out and earn your turns. Mt. Hood, Adams, St Helens, 3 Sisters, Rainier and Baker all offer great summer opportunities for summer corn if you are up for the lung searing climbs....
