The website has not been updated yet, but the webcams show mostly cloudy and fog/rain at government camp. It is raining in Vancouver right now and the radr shows a weird, westerly flow with more on the way. What concerns me is the northwesterly flow and the moisture combining with daytime heating for another round of early afternoon thunderstorms.
With a lot to do, I am pulling the plug on riding today; just not "epic" enough to warrant it so I will do fun stuff like oil change on the truck and get the raft ready for my trip coming up in a couple of weeks. I hope it works out for you if you decide to go.

There were some wicked thunderstorms out here in Hillsboro yesterday around 6pm...some of the most violent i've ever exerienced living here honestly. It was over in like 10 minutes, but there were 2 strikes that felt like they were on the house or very near by...very loud rumbling and the entire house started shaking ...i immediately ran outside making sure my new house or car wasnt on fire or something :/

Palmer never opened it looks like and all I see on the web cam at both Tline and the DOT cam in Govy is fog. With so many great summer riding days ahead, I can`t be bothered to go there for this. Next week it is supposed to be pretty decent again....

Being from tornado alley, I'm still amazed at what people consider severe out here. I drove home with my top down yesterday.

All it did in Vancouver was rain hard for about 15 minutes and we got a few lightning strikes. I guess down south, they got some golf ball sized hail and there was a Tornado Warning around Woodburn.

A okie? It was hard to believe that they were canceling so many things. Once it went through after a few minutes it was back to typical Portland weather. I was truly disappointed as I had expected a real storm. At least tennis ball size hail!
I also pulled the plugged on going to T'line today. The plan was to bail out of work at 9:00-9:30ish but the clouds did looked like they had moved in, whereas earlier it looked liked it was above the clouds. Tomorrow likes a little better but most likely will go on Sunday. But who knows if the bug strikes I'm up there tomorrow also. Later in the weeks it looks like more rain so there may only be a few good days before the pass expires.

It actually was not bad. The weather was all below, both lifts open. We avoided the rain and ugly stuff, so it was fun, a little sun burn but good.

Since a bunch of you here seem to know Mt Hood pretty well, I'm wondering... how good is the summer boarding, really?
Specifically, is it good enough to justify a trek up there from San Francisco in order to get over those midsummer "I wants mah SNOW" blues?
I probably wouldn't be making the trip until August, so I'm more curious than anything at this point.

By August, things are getting a little thin and the rideable areas on Palmer get smaller. It is still, very decent riding and the weather then is usually at it`s best. Great summer slush, though not much in the way of a terrain park (they just don`t have the snow left for it) Palmer is great for free riding and working on your ground tricks. If you come up in august, make it a more well rounded trip and enjoy some other recreation along with your boarding. There is tons of rafting, hiking and camping available. Also, after a day of snowboarding, make the drive into Hood River and spend the afternoon kite boarding on the Columbia river. There are tons of schools with rentals.
