Nozawa Onsen Dec 2014

Its that time of year again.

My first trip out of the 2014 season and the pow gods smiled upon me.

I spent the first day at Myoko (Akakura kanko) which is in Niigata and we had 50cm of fresh. Hardly anyone there and the tree runs yielded fresh lines over and over again. The perfect warm up for the season.

I spent the day on my Proto HD and although its good in pow for an all mountain deck it was not easy in 50cm of fairly heavy pow especially with legs that are not in season condition yet.

I spent the next two days guiding a group around Nozawa onsen and the first day brought another 50cm of fresh up at the top.

It barely stopped snowing so I didn't get many shots. Took this while waiting for a member of the group who had to hike out of the trees.

I also had a new pow board to test out thanks to ETM. 166cm and built to float through anything. I will be writing a proper review later after I get more time on the board, but let me say this, the pow performance is ridiculous.
It just won't stop or sink on runs that I know are extremely hard to get through in conditions like these. Others (on pow decks) were walking while I was still surfing.

Only a light dusting on the last day but I still spend most of the day in fresh due to my abundant secret stashes around Nozawa. Superb warm up and I should be able to team up with ETM in January to get some proper footage and put up the review of the deck.

I have a few more pics in my phone and will add some more later.

A few more future shots for you. CJ Feb is the best time to be there especially the first half of Feb, absolutely the best. Maybe we will all cross paths.

My own personal piste, ungroomed of course.

Just near the Nagasaka gondola station is a spring, I always have a drink after a day on the mountain.

The photos don't do justice to the board, pretty much everyone who laid eyes on it commented on how beautiful it is.
