Australia Trip in June

Hi guys,

Thinking of going to australia/NZ for a snowboarding trip sometime in June. Has anyone been there and have any suggestions for good resorts? We are thinking of Queensland because it seems everyone goes there. But I wouldn't mind suggestions for bigger mountains that are lesser known.

Thanks!

Lol not sure if trolling or just have no idea about AU .
Queensland is about 1500klm away from the nearest snow and june is the very start of the season.
Best to come in August and fly into Canberra to travel to Jindabyne. There is some good terrain in AU, its just not in the resorts.

Only go snowboarding in Australia if you plan on coming here anyway. I wouldn't recommend a snowboarding "trip" to Aus. Trust me. We have a short season, shit snow, shit terrain, and are shockingly overpriced.

Having said that, I travel six hours from Sydney pretty much every second week to ride during the season. Its still alot of fun.

Haha, yes sorry. I am Canadian, and am travelling that way anyways so I am not sure about locations.

I do mean queenstown, I have no clue why I typed queensland. I do know they are more expensive than other countries, but hey, can't complain about snowboarding in the summer. June would be start of the season, then I could probably move the trip back to August....Thanks!

I actually didnt mind the snow so much, and Perisher-Blue with 50+ lifts has plenty of variety to explore. But dont go there looking for massive powder runs.

Its just that everything there was just so expensive (a weekend trip with accommodation/lifts/food and shared petrol costs would easily get to $600 pp).

If the main purpose of the trip is to go snowboarding, i would redirect to NZ. It might even be cheaper to fly to NZ from Australia if you want to go boarding while travelling the southern hemisphere

Hey dude Queenstown is in NZ just to clarify, which you may have known but just a confusing first post, and mentioned for Aus, August is usually the most reliable time to look at boarding. You could pop over for a couple of weeks, normally most reliable time of season. Last year we got about 3m in June (here in Canterbury, they had much less down in Queenstown) which was crazy awesome start to the season, but not much snow after that.

Very unpredictable seasons here, sometimes early snow, sometimes late, but August is definitely safest bet to have snow if your planning far out. We get a lot of Aussie tourists in snow season, despite them having their own, as its generally cheaper for them to come to NZ than stay in their resorts (given that you can stay for a lot cheaper in the towns nearby our mountains) and I think we have a bit more vert and some good parks (pretty much Cardona now that Snowpark has gone kaput).
