Default Park City trip report

So a few friends and I got back from PC a few days ago - we had a blast! Such a good time I couldn’t resist not writing about it. Here’s our trip in a nutshell:

We managed to get a place to stay (for free!) from a family friend. Awesome deal. We were a few miles down the road from downtown PC, basically right across the street from Canyons.

Day 1: overcast conditions, we decided to go to Snowbird. Awesome mountain - kind of exposed when compared to the others. The light was so flat that you literally couldn’t see the snow at all, so we stuck to the trees all day. We found a few great stashes of soft stuff and spent most of the day near the Gad lift (lookers right, skiers left). We ventured to the backside and did the tram too but the conditions just weren’t ideal for the whole mountain.

Day 2: bluebird day. Went to Park City and lapped McConkey lift in the morning (definitely hike up the ridge if you can) and Jupiter in the afternoon. Tons of soft stuff, great tree runs, awesome time. Park City is definitely the everymans resort - there’s terrain for everyone. Downside is it does attract the yuppies - lots of these folks on the groomers. I got into Neffland (their version of a mini park) and had fun in there. It’s definitely tough to get where you want to go in PC - you need a map and/or help from staff who sit at the top of the lifts and can point you to where you need to go.

Day 3: day off. Cruised around downtown PC and when and had lunch at Deer Valley. Talk about posh….

Day 4: went to Solitude. This was my favorite day - the area got about 6-8 inches, which wasn’t super deep but it refreshed the soft stuff that was already there. We lapped the summit chair and Honeycomb canyon, found a bunch of untouched terrain. Nice, dry powder. This mountain is smaller than PC and Snowbird, with not as many bells and whistles, which I like. It was partly sunny, which kept snow conditions somewhat consistent throughout the dat. Highly recommend this place on a good powder day.

Day 5: back to PC again. Not as good as the first time around, but still fun. Lapped McKonkey and Jupiter again, explored a little of the lower mountain but it was SUPER busy. Overall, good day.

Day 6: went to Canyons. Snow conditions at this point were crusty, so we stuck to the groomers. (The whole mountain is really spread out, so the goal is to pick an area, ski it a bunch and then move to a new spot. Trying to ski the whole mountain in one day results in you traversing on cat tracks all day long…no fun). Coming from the northeast, hard groomers are what we ride normally so we ripped down some steep blacks and double blues and actually had a lot of fun until I decided to go into the park, came off a box wrong and smacked my head. Concussion and a migraine followed, so my day was done around noon. (I’m ok now though….luckily this was our last day there).

Overall we had a great time. People were super friendly, riding was awesome there’s great food, great nightlife and everything is really close by. No mountain was more than 45 minutes from our condo.

That’s it! Ride on.
