Being from Oklahoma, the best time to make a 12 hour drive to board is spring break. You get what you can take so we went knowing we'd fight some crazy crowds. We showed up in Silverthorne on the 14th to hear that the day's riding was horrible. Heavy winds and snowblow cleaned the runs off and left only hardpack and ice. We didn't know what to expect come Monday so we just made the best of it. We planned on riding Key and Breck but the lift tickets got fucked up so we only got to ride Key. Anyway, we hit the runs Monday and they were alright. The next few days were really warm and made for some nice riding. The runs Tues, Weds, and Thurs all slushed up during the day and refroze at night making for some hard corderoy for the first hour or two in the mornings. The riding was fun and we did find some nice runs early in the morning when the mountain wasn't so crowded. The best runs we made were either at night or on Go Devil. Way less croweded on the devil and a little more steep then the crowded blue runs.
Overall, we had a great time. I hope we can get back over Christmas break and try a cheaper, maybe closer mountain. On the fourth day, my friend in the white jacket below was just messing around on a easy blue called spillway. We didn't see his fall but he ended up hitting his head pretty good. On our way up to Outback, he started repeating himself constantly so I took him to the med guy. Our day ended there as he got taken down the mountain in a cart to the med clinic. He spent a couple hours in the clinic and then took him to Frisco to the hospital. He had a good concussion but thankfully his CT scan cleared. He's getting his memory back slowly lol. he is gonna be fine. he was released that day and we ended the trip on a good note. my friend and me(tan jacket) ![]() my friend getting ready to go down the mountain ![]() me on Outback the day before my friends accident

You're right about the 14th. It's the worst day I've experienced so far this season. We started at A-Basin and the visibility was about 15 feet. The snow was decent at the bottom of the mountain, but everyone was piling up at that lift. The back bowls were unridable.
So, we left and went to Keystone. Visibility was much better, but it was a fucking sheet of ice. We just left and went home. Screw it. |
