St. Anton - my first video ever
I'm staying a couple of weeks in St. Anton. I recently bought the GoPro HD camera. I filmed a fun little drop out of an unfinished hut next to one of the chairlifts. My impressions on the trip so far? St. Anton rocks and POV filming sucks! I hope you learn from my mistake...

I know what your problem is: you ride goofy! switch to a normal riding stance and your POV filming will come out better :P
that was a neat little drop I suppose. Why didn't you film in HD? Or did you just create a non-HD video file to upload to Youtube? POV filming has it's downfalls for sure; I have the GoPro HD Hero, too. In my opinion you're going to get much better footage using a pole mounted POV camera, you can do this with the GoPro with an old ski pole or whatever sort of pole you have lying around. I used a retractable broom handle. Alternate holding the pole-mounted camera in front of you and also you can use it in your trailing hand to get a follow-cam POV. Both of these will put you in the frame and make a more enjoyable video. Here's a quick one I recently put together (looks best in 720P HD): YouTube - Breck Sunday - Dave In hindsight, I wish I would've extended the pole another foot or two, and I used too much follow-cam, I like the camera to be out in front, filming back at me. Get a pole that's a minimum 3 ft / 1 metre long and that should do the trick. |

i got a gopro too...i used it last wed for the first time. i also went to a sporting good store and bought myself one of those retractable type hiking poles. I managed to scavenge some hose clamps from work and found an ideal way of attaching my camera to it. Im a big fan of the way videos looks shooting in 3rd person view and cant wait to start my own vid next week. |

there was nothing wrong with that video, throw in a couple of more clips, paste them together and u got urself a short lil vid. idk what software for editing ur using but on my macbook, i have the option of stabilizing any shaky clips. This can take forever sometimes especially when recorded in 1080 or even 720p. i got the gopro for the quality, but when i first started uploading videos, i didnt realize just how huuuugeeeee a 30sec file can be |

Disclaimer: I am no way comparing my little self with the great Gigi Ruf and I am explicitly stating that you would not say: "wow, what a sick move" if you saw my video clip shot from 3rd person perspective. |
There's always the option to film it like this, sorta the best of both worlds pov vs 3rd person...

YouTube - 09 - 10 season gopro hero HD snowboarding i have posted this in its own thread but this is my video from last year. it was completly done on a gopro. Having a pole is def a must. I have two different ones but they are both from the same company. eyeofmine.com They have alot of 3rd party mounts that will make your gopro footage much better.
