Trip NON-Report -- first weekend at home all season

It is freakin' abysmal in New England. Virtually every mountain from Snow to Stowe is on some sort of wind hold. Mt. Snow has no upper mountain access and is dealing with frozen crap snow after a week of spring-like temps. Stowe has the gondola and their top on wind hold. It is horrible. Glad I'm not one of those families who spent top dollar for a President's Weekend of riding. It blows up here. Literally.

Yeah...left the board home today and dusted off the roller blades. But then I was inspired to go watch my first roller derby, which was a hoot...so kind of a silver lining.

Stowe was horrible yesterday. Windy, low visibility and bulletproof ice. Last Run of the day on nosedive was the worst run I have had in 14 years of boarding.

You did the right thing staying home. I was at Okemo on 2/19 and it was icy as hell due to the temp drop fr the previous day. It did snow that day which made the conditions a little better...but better off had i sat it out.

Today made up for the missed days. One of the very best powder days I've ever experienced in VT. We got up at 4:00 am to make the 2 1/2 hour drive to Stratton, and still didn't get there until after 8:00. It was snowing hard when we pulled out of the driveway, and I think everyone in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts had the same idea -- POW. Usually Sunday northbound traffic is pretty light, but between the freshies and shitty roads, it made for a long drive to the mountain. It continued to snow all day. We parked at Sun Bowl and it was still pretty quiet, but filling up fast. Only a handful of people on the lift when we finally got out about 8:45. First run was just the lower mountain back to Sun Bowl, but it was an ass-kicker with all that new powder. The blues were nearly as tough as the blacks because of all the powder bumps, but the snow was so soft and perfect we kept going back, finally finishing off with a run down Kidderbrook from the top -- that's when I thought my legs were going to fall off, and we quit just after 3:00. Totally sick conditions at Stratton. I hope all my New England bros got a taste.
