Night ride at Wisp, with a crunch! - Snowboarding Forum

My oldest son my girlfriend and I went to Wisp in Maryland for the night session yesterday. The snow was mostly loose granular, which was a treat considering our last couple of trips were more like ice skating than snowboarding. Such is life in the Mid-Atlantic. We lapped the North Camp trails for a while and decided to get some chow. After getting off of the lift at the top of the mountain, we started skating toward the Possum trail. I have no idea how, but I managed to trip myself up and went ass over tea kettle, landing on my face. Actually, the first part of me to hit was the left side of my chest. Not sure if the cruching I heard was my ribs or the snow!

After doing a function check of my 38 year old body, I concluded that there were no ribs sticking into my lungs. The body don't take the hits as well as it did 20 years ago.

So we rode down Possum and took a break. After about an hour we headed back out and did 3 more laps around Possom and Wisp trail. I watched a group of kids that were just killing it. They were doing butters at speeds I don't even want to ride and catching air off of everything in sight. Watching them put a huge grin on my face! BTW, today my chest feels like I got punched by Mike Tyson, twice!

Keep it up, dad. I just took up the sport last year @ 39 and am loving it. My girls are getting to the age where they'll be giving it a try and if she likes it, I hope her old man can keep up for a little while at least. It's great you can spend time with your son doing something you enjoy, instead of being a couch-potato dad and living vicariously through your kid.

At 39 I think you'll have plenty of years left.

I appreciate the motivation guys. I've been blessed with a great bunch of kids who call me Dad. As long as I can, I'm hangin' with them. They keep me young and happy. And yes, I am for sure hooked!
