Spring Riding in NJ

Hey everyone. I am new to the forums, but have been riding off and on for 13 years. This was the first season that I have been out on a weekly basis in over 5 years, and I have fallen in love with my snowboard all over again. I was pretty rusty at first, but everything came back after a couple of days.

It was raining practically everywhere in the north east last weekend, but I still decided to give Mountain Creek a shot since it is the closest area to me. I'm glad I did. The weather cleared up, and although it was in the 50's and slushy, I couldn't really complain too much.

Here are a couple of shots the GF took.

We are looking at heading up to either Jiminy Peak in MA (family in Pittsfield) or to Killington next weekend if the weather looks good.

We started the morning on Vernon Peak and then made our way across to Granite. We hit up South after lunch. I did a couple of runs and left. The jumps were way to packed and icy and my gf is still learning. I didn't want someone crashing into her. The rest of the place is ok, but I wish they had the new trail open that connected everything. The shuttle bus was kind of annoying.

I was just there on Fri and Sat and it was opened. Hope you get better soon!

Blue Mountain maintains their trails very well and blow snow quite often. I was there when they had night riding until 2am, and it was great. A bit granular in places, but overall, it was quite nice. If they don't blow snow on Friday, I wouldn't go. The weather has been quite warm and rainy.
Agree, I think blue has the best conditions around the poconos/NJ. Creek was pretty good actually this past weekend and not that many people were there :). Soft snow and not too slushy at all. One of my friends and her bf are there today and they said it's pretty good still on south. I talked to one of the guys at creek and they don't plan on making anymore snow and conditioning vernon/granite so it might be pretty slushy after the rain tom and Fri. South they plan on keeping it conditioned for as long as they can.

Let me know if Jiminy is any good. I saw a lot of rain in the forecast, and I was up at Catamount last week after rain and whatnot, and it was an ice sheet. I've got some nice yellow bruises all over. Tried to spend the day working on switch, and ended up eating ice for the better part of the morning. Rode until noon-ish and called it quits. Still bruised...

So yea... give a heads up if it's iced over this weekend. Was thinking of going up next week.

I tend to gravitate toward Jiminy because they offer night riding. So if I go up and stay, I can get in, potentially, 11 hours of riding cheaper than what I would pay at Mt. Snow, etc. Granted, the terrain is limited, but with a high-speed lift, I can spend all day working on switch, or new ground stuff, and the evening and night cruising around. Best bang for your buck factor.

Plus, if you find yourself a little lazy and you don't get on the slopes until 11, you don't feel like you've wasted half a day and a bunch of money.

I had been looking for another two people to split a spot at Jay for this week and couldn't find anyone, and of course it dumps two feet up there.

I was planning a day at Hunter this weekend as well... they did get some snow (after rain) with the last system but with this latest event, looks to be all rain and quite a bit... even into northern VT they will get mostly rain tomorrow it seems. Will probably shoot up to Creek instead since its a much closer drive for me so even if its terrible not a disaster. Really want to get out one more time before I head out west next week.

It looks like Killington will get a small snow shower late Friday night. I am actually debating on heading up to Killington Friday night and riding Saturday until 3pm since the weather looks like it will hold up. Afterward, drive down to Jiminy for some night riding and stay at my family's house. Then ride Jiminy till 4pm on Sunday and drive back to Jersey. Doing this should avoid the rain for the weekend. :p

We got to Jiminy around 11am and the snow was super packed. It didn't break up until around 1pm, which revealed quite a bit of ice on all of the greens. Whitetail (I think that was the name) was ridiculously icy with moguls. I ate it a couple of times on that thing. The terrain park was closed except for the two little ones. I actually had more fun at Bousquet, since it was practically empty. Bousquet is having their slush run next weekend to wrap up the season. It looks like it will be a fun time.

I hit up mt. creek sunday just to get out for a few.. was super soft, slow and slushy but empty which was nice. Was able to get in a ton of runs in a short amount of time. Was a good warm-up for my Co. trip this week. Think it was the last day for the vernon peak and only south will be open from here on out, however long that might be.
