Sorry, no pics as we didnt waste any time with the camera.... just had to express my joy of strapping on my board yesterday and getting some runs in!!
![]() It was at Cataloochee in Maggie Valley, NC and yesterday was there season opener. The mountain typically only has 5400 ft of vert and only the bottom half was up and running, needless to say the runs were short...LOL but still had a freakin blastthere park was not open yet but they did have about 5 diff rails set up and some of us riders built a few small kickers on the side of some of the runs...felt great to get a few grabs, 180s, and a couple failed 360s in (lil rusty from my first season last year). def dug my nose in on a couple fs 3 attempts and a bs 3 attempt but all my 180s were lofty and smooth, both reg and half cab i hit my first rail at the very end of last season and while i was only succesfull last year at some 50/50s i also tried and failed at some front boards the highlight of my day yesterday was upping my 50/50s a lil by, after about 6-8 attempts, successfully doing a few 50/50s fs 180 off and also had 2 succesfull front boards on a corrugated pipe![]() all and all a great start to the season...its all NC riding till i hit up keystone/abasin/breck in Feb wooot wooot |

while i was def stoked too, its not too much to brag on IMO...it was def one of the beginner type rail set ups as it was dug into the snow so to make it only about 6 inches high. when you fell, you didnt have far to fall and the pipe was giving so it didnt hurt too bad to slam on it if you fell, which i def did fall... the 180s out of 5050 were on a legit rail though so i was actually more stoked on that!! thanks for the encouragement though! also the corr pipe was like 25 ft long and its not like a front boarded the whole thing to a clean dismount...more like slid a few feet then just fell off the side and rode away..still felt good though, as my only front board attempts last year ended in me on my tailbone
Lol, funny to see a guy who live in slc talk about the cat...how long did you ride out here before moving out west?? im pretty jealous thats your story cause i wanna move out there too also let me add in this...any of you guys/gals that are just getting into rails/jumps/anything really...just as nice as most peeps are on here about helping others out... the ones shredding your local park are mostly the same way too, when i kept hiking the park and hitting the rail over and over trying my 180 off, i started asking the guys that were sick nasty on the rails for some pointers, and they were nice as could be, gave me tips and they were super stoked when i finally landed it.... sounds cheezy, but i saw lots of noobs in there trying stuff but acted scared to speak up and ask for help...soooo just ask the guys that are ripping and theyll most likely help ya out if ya need it.... I grew in in Chattanooga and went to college in Knoxville. The entire time I was in college I would hit up Cat, Sugar, or Ober. It sucked but I knew I wanted to be out West once I graduated. Things fell into place. I went home last year for Christmas and actually hit up Sugar and App that was a good time since there were so many bare spots haha. I forgot how icy it can be too. I think windchill was -10 the second day when it was 40+ the day before. That sucked.

I went to sugar the same day and it was basically the same thing, no park features besides what people had built on the trails. Still it felt good to get out and get on a board.

UHGGG I'm sooo Jealous! I totally wanted to go this weekend but couldn't. I've never been to Cat. Actually I've really only been to App (My first season was last season as well). How is Cat usually, compared to App let's say?
Expecting cold enough temps later this week so hopefully that means more snow making and they will open again. My friends and I are def going to whoever is open this weekend hah. It's a long, but totally worth it, ride from Charleston, SC.

never been to app, ive only been to cat and snowshoe. for what it is, cat is a lot of fun. i mean i live in GA so not much close options.. they keep the park up and nice so thats whats led to my mainly freestyle type riding...just treat the mtn like a park and hit up every lil side hit there is, cruise through the park for some kickers and rails and your at the bottom ready to do it again.. 5400ft of vert, i mainly ride on weekdays so no lines and the car is always close enough to bring your own drinks/food to make for a fun day of partying and riding

5400' of vert would be pretty damn amazing. Revelstoke is the only one I can think of with more! Sorry dude, you only have 740' of vertical rise. Top elevation is 5400' and the base is at 4660'.
