Taos Ski Valley - NM
Rode all weekend up here at my local mountain TSV. Ill give a very basic trip report and update this thread with conditions throughout the year, maybe with some pics. Either way here goes.
Went up on thanksgiving, I actually didn't know I was off work until the day before - so it was a great surprise. Got there in the morning, snow was good and not too hard. The backside is open already, which is a good sign for us. About 11:00 or so it started warming up and the runs got very carve-able. Was able to really wind out my new K2 Turbo Dream, and it handles amazingly. I really love that board so far. Either way the snow was gripping hard enough for some very hard carves (hard enough to boot out as I did once, size 11.5 boot on a wide board - so that gives you an idea of how hard i was able to bank.). Just spent all day enjoying the side hits on the way down and carving it up. Very enjoyable. I also rode sat/sun and similar reports from those days. Fri. night we actually got a few inches and it was very good on sat. So far - great opening year for us southern rocky mtn. riders! Come ride Taos! |
Very few people will probably see this, even fewer will probably care. But. POWDER. Such a perfect weekend in knee deep dry pow. Snowed all day friday, ended up hitting about 15" of fresh pow. They opened much of the steep, and some of the west basin (basically hikable backcountry style). Rode powder all day while it was still snowing so the pow never really went away. It snowed all night saturday and I rode on sunday. At that point 26" total had accumulated. Sunday was just epic. Rode a bunch of steep tree runs in knee-waist deep conditions, I tell you all this with honesty, THIS IS SO GOOD FOR PRE SEASON!.
Please let this snow keep up. The good board-lord has blessed us. |

Great to hear Taos is getting snow and that this weekend was so epic. Still have not ridden there since they opened up to snowboards due to being a poor college kid and a season ending injury.
Hoping to pull the trigger on a season pass in the next week or two, getting tried of day tripping Wolf Creek. |
Snarfs, where do you live? Let me know if you start coming up to taos, I'm riding 3 days a week up there this year so I'm sure we will see each other.

Any news on the other NM resorts? I might head to Taos for a weekday before their rates go up.
