I was in Hokkaido last week for a business trip. It was snowing at the airport but driving around to my location I didn't see too much snow around. I'm a bit nervous as I am going back for a snowboarding trip first week of Jan. I am very interested in hearing any news from this 'board Japan' pose we've created on this forum.
I've heard that practically no snow throughout Europe but some in North America. It looks like mother nature has not woken much yet. |

Hey WaltzingMatera.
There's definitely enough snow to be riding around at the resorts in Hokkaido now. Most of them, if not all, are open. I went riding at Teine last Sat, and am going again tomorrow. At Teine on Sat there was enough to open about 75% of the resort. A couple of lifts were closed, and the park hasn't been made yet. The snow, however, is deep enough, with little powder runs if you duck the ropes. If you want to see how much snowfall we've been getting check out my BC trip report for Daisetsuzan and the photos will show you how deep the back country has been getting! I'd be very surprised if you couldn't go riding at any of the major resorts this weekend. |
