Nozawa Onsen sidecountry 2012 - Snowboarding Forum

Just got back from another trip to Nozawa Onsen in Nagano. Fantastic conditions. I was able to get into the sidecountry properly for the first time this year because the snow conditions were just right.

Day 1: Lots of tracked out powder from the previous day, but I know all the hidden spots and was able to find lots of tree runs with untouched snow, about 30cm of fresh from the previous day.

Day 2: 30cm of fresh fluffy pow overnight then clear blue skies while boarding, epic.

Day 3: Another 30-40cm of fresh pow and good visibility

Yeah, they got another 40cm last night but I don't do weekends

. Too many people and too much waiting in line

.

Basically its a total powder fest this year

.

I will be back up there towards the end of the month for a 4 day trip.

Don't mean to rub it in but we are not just having a good year here, its off the scale.

If you or anyone else reading this has the opportunity, I highly recommend a trip out this way. Pretty much every year is very good and if you are lucky you get one like this where its just constant fresh powder.

Are you sure? Alright let me just go spend $2800 on plane tickets.

Japan is on my hit list, but I don't think it's happening till I'm out of college.

Didn't don't you were in college, anyway you may have the opportunity some day and I highly recommend it. I love the powder here but the culture is fascinating too.

I never new Japan was the powder capital I have been researching a trip out there. After I tore my ACL last year biffing it on a huge kicker im done with jumps and all about the powder.
