Great report.
The views from the Lake are amazing! I have been riding there for 4 seasons and its still blows me away! Love the second pic with MT Temple in the back ground. Glad to hear you got some good snow in the back bowls. Did you hit any of the chutes of the top of paradise? Some of them are scary steep! Don't worry to much about Kicking Horse. The word is out on that one. When it gets snow the lift lines are fucked as there is only one way up. Did you get into the Dive at Sunshine?

Some of the chutes off paradise are the first things I've ever looked down and said to myself "are you fucked?" I'll ride pretty much anything but I think I'll save those for powder days. They seem to turn into steep mogul runs after a day or two. That kinda sucks about kicking horse. I've got an RCR pass this year so been spending most of my time between Nakiska and Fernie. Since RCR bought KH I was thinking of getting the 4 resort RCR pass next year, plus adding on lake louise. Figure pre-season it'll be about $1300-$1400 or so and offer me 4 great resorts within 1:10, 2:00 and 3:30 from my house (plus kimberly if I ever decide to go back). How's kicking horse mid-week? |

The horse is ok mid week. I normally get Sat/Sun off but managed to get a Wednesday off last week. Just as bad as a saturday. They did get pow though where not many others had.
One valley over from Fuez bowl there is talk that they want to run a gondola up there as part of the long term plans. If that happens the place will be awesome. In the next 10 years the horse should become one of the better hills in Canada if RCR plays there cards right. From a buisness point of view it was a great pick up. Although RCR closed the park the day they bought it.

Did you ever see that "park"? It's a damn good thing they closed it lol, what a joke it was. I definitely agree with you though, KH is one of the best hills in the country (of course along with Castle & Revelstoke). I've rode the bowl you're speaking of (Rudy Bowl I think?). They really should concentrate on getting a mid-station put in that gondola before doing anything else.
And relocating the "stairway to nowhere" chair since there's no benefit having it there. |
