April Powder - Snowboarding Forum

Awesome Knee deep day yesterday at Kirkwood. Not too crowded for a powder Sunday bluebird. We had 2 small slides inbound, I saw one from chair 4... and Ski Patrol closed the resort for about 1,5 hours. But before that it was a dream day. It took them quite a bit to bomb the resort and the area ready for TNF competition (the Cirque)

6 was so deep and fluffy in the morning I had to work out that A-Frame. Not a Pow specific board and se all the way back was hard to control, especially on fluff over icy crust. But a bit later on the backside I was flying off the wave, down the steeps carving wide and hitting wind lips, and down in the woods...first tracks and no one with me until a howling skier passed by screaming of joy. A big fella that kept pushing on his poles to pass me while I enjoyed the fresh...we both screamed our way down to chair 4 running side to side in the empty woods....what a run.

WOW!!! That looks so amazing! I am completely jealous as I am pretty sure we are going to warm up too much over the week to get another good weekend in.

I wanted to go to mammoth this weekend

But I had to work.

Nice pics!!! I have a lift ticket to alpine meadows I need to use before the season ends. need to make a tahoe trip soon!

Looks pretty 'effin nice KR. I was hoping we'd get some April moisture to close out strong. Not looking like it's going to happen. After getting back from Washington, I may not strap on my board again until next season. Bummer. At least California is sticking to the closing out strong plan this year. Enjoy it!

I went yesterday but I'm not counting on much more this season...It warmed up quickly and got unstable, hence the slides. It was a foot plus of fluff over hard pack/ice...kind of dangerous in spots.

Remember the May storms in the sierra last season? Power day for Memorial Day. (i know it's not likely, but Im trying to be hopeful) I missed this storm as I had to work this weekend. I am really sad when I think that I might not see more powder this season.

I know..I hope too bro...but this season has been more bust than glory...yesterday was the best of the season for me, beside the avy hold. If I get more..better.

And I thought I had a nice day yesterday poaching a few powder lines under the lift and along the edge of the trees...

At least mine were steeper. Smoked a patrol on tele after I gave him half a run lead but I shouldn't really count it as he put up a yardsale

Man when Kirkwood is good it's really good. I'm used to get that cover during the week...sharing the white gold with maybe other 60 people, ride single chair all day and stop getting fresh lines when your legs are fried....where do you ride? The are steeper lines, I was very careful yesterday not to go there...we had 2 slides inbound and it took them until 12:45 to open the back side (usually opens by 11)...by then the snow was warm and even more unstable on steeps. I had no avy gear and didn't wanted to risk it at all.

I understand - these slides are impressive!

I ride WA PNW - Snoqualmie Pass (closest), Stevens, Crystal. Less often (they are farther) Baker, Whistler, up to Big White (last year). BC is often around Mt. Rainier.
